Emi Takegami
Emi Takegami graduated Deerfield Academy in May 2025 and is now a student-athlete pursuing Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale University. At Deerfield, Emi balanced athletics, clubs, and academics as the Captain of the Varsity Girl’s Rowing Team, Co-Chair of the Asian Student Alliance, and Head Peer Tutor.
Though Emi was first introduced to rowing in middle school, she largely attributes her development in the sport and success in recruitment to Deerfield. During her Deerfield rowing career, she competed twice at Youth Nationals, medaled four times at NEIRA, and became a Henley Royal Regatta Finalist for the first time in Deerfield Academy history. Outside of athletics, Emi recalls sit-down meals and her close-knit Chinese class as some of the highlights of her Deerfield experience.
At Yale, Emi applies the ability to excel in multiple fields that she learned at Deerfield. Not only is she developing new skills as a coxswain on the Varsity Women’s Crew Team, but she also joined Y Pop-Up, the fine dining club on campus. There, she combines her passion for food with her creativity as she organizes event logistics for biweekly pop-up restaurants and photographs each event with her new photography skills.
