Kiran Makam

Kiran Makam graduated cum laude from Choate Rosemary Hall and is a member of the Class of 2029 at Dartmouth College. While at Choate, he engaged meaningfully across academic, extracurricular, and athletic circles. He completed the JFK Program in Government and Public Service, where he studied the American political system, economics, and philosophy. However, toward the end of his high school career, he developed a more vibrant interest in human biology, which now informs his pre-medical studies at Dartmouth.

Outside the classroom, Kiran held several leadership positions within the Choate community. He co-led the school’s Wellness Committee, worked as a Lead Tour Guide, served as an Upperclass Prefect, and participated on the Varsity Basketball Team. As a local student from Woodbridge, Connecticut, he remained engaged in his home community throughout the academic year and summers as well. He worked for four summers as a teacher with Horizons at Foote and co-founded the program’s Junior Advisory Committee. In New Haven, he also worked as a reading tutor for local youth and held student internships with the Yale Justice Collaboratory and the Yale Prison Education Initiative.

At Dartmouth, Kiran has already taken on various responsibilities, earning a spot on the Club Basketball Team, becoming a provider for Dartmouth Emergency Medical Services, and acting as the External Affairs Chair for the Dartmouth Prison Justice Initiative. Now, as a member of the Mentor Council of Mentors Opening Doors, he aspires to help ambitious students maximize and tailor their boarding school experience.
